Comparing GLP X5 Impression's WASH Lights series
Closer look at these popular WASH devices from GLP, including their latest X5 with IP65
Moving Wash Heads: GLP X5 Series
Moving wash heads from the GLP X5 series have gained immense popularity in the lighting market. Let’s take a closer look at these popular WASH devices. In this article, we’ll compare three models: GLP X5 IP65, GLP X5, and GLP X5 Compact. Each of these devices is built on the same RGBL LEDs and lenses, offering exceptional lighting capabilities, significantly simplifying and speeding up workflows.
GLP Impression X5 IP
The GLP X5 IP is a new model designed for outdoor use with full IP65 protection. It launches at ISE 2025 in Barcelona. Its key features include:
LEDs: 19 RGBL LEDs, each with 40 W of power, delivering up to 11,400 lumens of luminous flux.
Zoom range: 17:1, adjustable from 3.6° to 63°.
Color mixing: The iQ.Gamut algorithm ensures precise color mixing, natural white tones, and high CRI (up to 86.7) and TLCI (up to 88.5).
Special features: Pixel mapping and dynamic lighting effects.
IP65 certification: Protection against dust, moisture, and debris, ideal for festivals, outdoor concerts, and other open-air events.
Control options: Supports DMX, RDM, ArtNet, sACN, and Lumenradio CRMX.
Weight: Less than 21 kg.
With its IP65 protection, the GLP X5 IP is reliable and efficient even in challenging weather conditions. Instead of developing a completely new device, GLP has extended the X5 family by maintaining the same lenses, LEDs, and colors across the series. This allows seamless integration of IP-rated and non-IP-rated fixtures within the same set, enabling uniform color control.
GLP Impression X5
The GLP X5 is the standard model in the series, designed for indoor use. Many customers across Europe, including major rental companies, already have it in their inventory. With consistent colors, smooth operation, and a relatively low weight, it’s a “workhorse” designed for years of service.
LEDs: 19 RGBL LEDs, each with 40 W of power (same as the IP65 model), delivering up to 12,500 lumens.
Zoom range: 16:1, from 3.5° to 63°, providing even lighting without hot spots.
Color mixing: Precise color blending with CRI of 86.7 and TLCI of 88.5 at 6,500 K.
Special features: Pixel mapping, dynamic effects, a virtual color wheel with 64 LEE filters, and tungsten light simulation.
Control options: DMX, ArtNet, sACN, with Near Field Control capability.
Weight: 13.3 kg.
The GLP X5 combines versatility and high light quality, making it an ideal choice for concert stages, events, and theaters.
GLP X5 Compact
The GLP X5 Compact is a smaller, more portable version of the X5, perfect for limited spaces. Once again, for convenience, it uses the same lenses and LEDs, allowing you to control the entire X5 family with a single control knob.
LEDs: 7 RGBL LEDs, each with 40 W of power.
Zoom range: 16:1, from 3.5° to 66°.
Color mixing: CRI of 90 at 6,500 K, precise color blending, magenta/green correction, and new color control options.
Special features: Dynamic effects, pixel mapping, and a virtual color wheel with LEE filters.
Weight: Only 7.5 kg.
Control options: DMX, ArtNet, sACN, and Near Field Control.
With its compact size and low weight, the GLP X5 Compact is ideal for small stages, clubs, and installations that require minimalism and flexibility. It also serves as a great complement to larger X5 units.
Model Comparison
Summary
The GLP X5 series offers highly versatile wash lighting options, ranging from the robust X5 IP65 to the versatile X5 and the compact X5 Compact.
Choosing the right model depends on your needs: for outdoor applications and demanding weather conditions, the X5 IP65 is the best choice. Meanwhile, the X5 and X5 Compact are perfect for concert stages, theaters, and indoor events.
Regardless of the choice, the X5 series allows seamless mixing of models, offering the flexibility to purchase a mix of IP65 and indoor X5 units, complemented by the smaller X5 Compact. Notably, GLP ensures consistent color across the family, even if additional units are purchased a year later.
It’s also worth mentioning that GLP CREOS uses the same lenses as the X5 series.
While GLP devices have long been recognized as industry leaders in quality, ensuring consistency, color accuracy, and smooth operation, their distribution by AV LIGHT has made them available at attractive prices and special offers. GLP’s pricing now competes well with other brands, and more of their devices are appearing in A-RENTAL - largest Easter Europe rental company, ensuring availability for extra equipment during peak seasons.
